Rich With Pizza Patrick Morris 9781495404535 Books Reviews
Funny enough, but you can just tell it was written by a filthy ginger. I'd rather watch Beetlejuice again instead.
If you like the essays of Bill Bryson, you'll love Rich with Pizza. The tetherball essay, as just one example, takes you from the highs of winning, to the lows of slow-dance rejection, and makes you ask what summer camp friendships are really all about. Funny, honest looks at adolescence.
This collection of stories runs the gamut of human emotions, from A to B. Serious, no not seriously, Patrick Morris has come up with a wildly eclectic group of stories that provide a portrait of a young man defining himself. Is he the little kid growing up in the Appalachian backwater of West Brookfield or the sophisticated young hipster treading water with all the other young hipsters in Brooklyn? The answer is ... both. Whether he is stinking up the dance floor at the appropriately named Camp Downer or spending an agonizing half-century self-consciously waiting in line at Starbucks, Patrick will pull you right along with him as he follows the crooked path from kid to adulthood. The stories may not be polished prose, but they are heartfelt and genuine, with lots of hidden gems that will make you smile, laugh, and occasionally wince. "Rich With Pizza" is well worth the treasure hunt.
Just finished this consistently comical, and often touching, book. If you like David Sedaris and stories about quirky Vermont folks, this book is perfect for you.
It's easy to get lost in this book - short stories that are hilarious and moving. Initially I was roped in by the funny title and sick book design, but I ended up loving it!
Purchased this book on a whim, and to my surprise was blown away by the very personal, sometimes hilarious short stories. Would highly recommend to anyone in need of a chuckle.
